The education of a Naturopathic Doctor

A licensed Naturopathic Doctor attends an accredited, four-year graduate level naturopathic medical school recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. They are educated in all of the same basic sciences and conventional diagnostics as an M.D, but also study holistic and nontoxic approaches to therapy with a strong emphasis on disease prevention and optimizing wellness. In addition to a standard medical curriculum, the Naturopathic Doctor is required to complete four years of training in clinical nutrition, homeopathic, herbal and physical medicine, hydrotherapy, pharmacology, minor surgery and counseling. A Naturopathic Doctor takes rigorous professional board exams so that he or she may be licensed as a primary care general practice doctor. These contemporary N.D.'s are increasingly acknowledged as leaders in bringing about progressive changes in the nation's medical system.
